About the artist

Hi! I’m Julia. I’ve been drawing and painting since I was a little girl.

Ever since I can remember, I wanted to be an artist. Coming out of high school, however, I ended up going to Georgia Institute of Technology and majoring in Aerospace Engineering. I participated in a wide variety of undergraduate research and ultimately went to graduate school for my PhD under Dr. Joseph Oefelein. I completed my doctorate in November 2025. My thesis covered using computational fluid dynamics simulations to improve our understanding of unsteadiness mechanisms of non-adiabatic shock-turbulent boundary layer interactions. Writing my thesis was the hardest task I’ve ever accomplished. I am proud I stuck with it, and equally grateful to my advisor and fellow graduate students for their support and faith in me. Over the 10 years I spent in higher education, my interests shifted from industry to academia to working in a national lab, yet all the while, my real passion to pursue art stayed constant.

Setting aside the career I’ve worked towards for 10 years is daunting. Working as a PhD-holding aerospace engineer certainly would give me much-needed financial stability, and all of this isn’t to say I dislike what I’ve been studying. Turbulent flows, computational simulations, and the rigorous problem solving of research work is fun and fascinating!

I know, however, that being an artist is truly what I was meant to be. I want to share my artistic vision with the world and I hope you enjoy sharing it with me.
